Our Spring 2024 Adventure took us to California, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. We were on the road from March 16 to April 28-6 weeks and lots of miles.
Day 1: Putting the miles in on 5 to get to the interesting stuff! I have to admit I don't find it to be the most interesting route but sometimes the goal is to get going. Our first campsite, as it often is, was Kern River Campground. This is a San Bernardino County park. It's not my definition of camping but we have grown to appreciate how nice it is. This was the first time we found a full campground-it was a weekend and they were having boat races. Still, it was very quiet at night. We talked to a number of local residents who very much appreciate the opportunity to get out in nature. The Kern River was running fast and as full as we've ever seen it.
We got up early the next morning to get to the "interesting stuff"! Onto Death Valley National Park. We're hoping to see a lake instead of the the salt flats at Badwater.
