May Trip #11 Capitol Reef

Entering Capitol Reef National Park

We left Green River and had some, for this trip, boring driving. A good bit of straight road with open desert to each side. Looking farther out into the distance we could see some interesting mountains, formations and cliffs but very far off. It was worth the drive as we ended up at Capitol Reef National Park. Quite a few years ago we had visited for a short time and wanted to go back. Again it was a quick visit but worth the stop. Someday we will stay in Capitol Reef (all booked up when I checked for this trip)

IIt looks like there might be something coming up at the side of the road! It's still pretty straight and not much to the sides. Looking back is the same!

Have we gotten spoiled by scenery? This is actually quite beautiful in it own way but I think our expectations of excitement are high.

"Dad, this is boring! When will we get there?
Where are we going?"

"Mom! Are were there yet? I'm sooooo bored.
Pay attention to me."

It looks like we could be getting into some interesting scenery soon!

Capitol Reef National Park

We saw lots of antique automobiles.
Finally got a photo of one of them!

One of the fun aspects of Capitol Reef is the evidence of people living and farming here. There are orchards and visitors are allowed to pick the fruit (in season). If you eat it in the orchard it is free and if you want to take some with you there is a small fee. This wasn't the right season. Last time we visited we were able to pick some of the fruit. I think they have apples, peaches, cherries, apricots, plums and almonds.

They do have pie!
Someone is very happy!
We got a mixed berry and a strawberry rhubarb.

Yum!

We drove out the Waterpocket Fold Road. It was very interesting and colorful.

But no Marmots greeted us!
