Pinnacles, February 2024

We managed to sneak away for an overnight camping trip to Pinnacles National Park. We've been here before but also before it became a National Park in 2013. While we didn't hike up to the Pinnacles (Watson wasn't allowed on the trails) we enjoyed a beautiful couple of days. We got the days between rainstorms so the hills were a glorious green and the skies were brilliant blue.

This was a good shake down before we leave for 6 weeks. What needs attention? What did we forget? etc.

  • My Camera got left at home! I set it out by the door and then left it! Cell phones to the rescue.
  • Coffee! How could we forget coffee? We had a bit (old) in the van but it gave us a good excuse to find a coffee roaster in San Juan Bautista. That saved our San Juan Bautista stop: everything was basically blocked off and off limits due to a movie being filmed there that day. Don't know what it is but Leo DeCaprio is in it.
  • Salad dressing (we had oil and vinegar)
  • Butter

  • The heater didn't work. (and not able to get it fixed before we go) That's not really a big issue. We seldom use it and only to take the chill off. We will have electric hook ups most of the next trip so will take a space heater.
  • I messed up the reservation and got it for the wrong date (big whoops) but it was mid-week so not a big problem. Ended up with a better site anyway.

We had a nice campsite. Campground wasn't at all full but there were a few people around.
Coffee maker as hand warmer. It was a bit chilly in the morning. There was frost on the table and the water container froze.

We hiked along the river and out to the historical farm. (hardly a hike, more like a stroll). Didn't see condors but the buzzards were sure hanging out, there were some magnificent turkeys, bunnies and deer.

We still have a lot of traveling to do on this trip. Time to get back to it. We are now at the East side of Texas, the area called the Piney...
