May Trip #2 - Petrified Forest

Leaving Phoenix the desert was beautiful. There was an amazing amount of green visible and often the contrast of red earth was quite striking.

A bit of humor with Dinosaurs showing up at the side of the road.
Sometimes the only thing to do is take the photo even though
the car is moving and there are odd reflections. It's about the story.

We camped at Rim Campground in the Apache Sitgraves National Forest. It was a nice, small campground and only one other person camping in a tent. It was a bit windy and the other camper gave up middle of the night so we had the campground to ourselves. We were just a bit early in the season so we avoided a lot of the crowds. A few places weren't open yet.

Petrified Forest National Park

We visited Petrified Forest National Park for the day (only back-country camping). We were able to take several walks to see lots of petrified wood. Even Watson was allowed to go on the paved trails. It is amazing to see how it is obvious that it is wood but also obviously rock. Beautiful colors and patterns.

Just a bit windy!

Watson isn't sure what is going on. It doesn't smell like wood!

These formations were called the "Teepees".
