Redwood Rambling

September 12-18 2021

The first campsite, of the first trip in the van, at Salt Point State Park.

Two weeks after picking the van up we were packed and ready to go! This will be Dean's LAST vacation! He retires at the beginning of October so everything after this is whatever we want to do!

Watson loves to travel-he gets our undivided attention. He has found his spot between the front seats, with plenty of pads and pillows and he is a happy boy. He started the trip limping and we are determined to avoid having that second knee replaced so we are taking it pretty easy with him. I think the extra attention and medication is giving him a chance to heal. Yeah! Having Watson along helps us to slow down. We don't go on long hikes (most places are no dogs on the trail) and we are mostly outdoors. A 90 pound dog takes up most of the floor space in the van.

We drove 1 up the coast. Narrow, windy, with cliffs to look over. Dean did all the driving! He says it's not bad but it does feel different than the small Suburu. We learned that the upper cabinet doors will open and everything falls out (nothing broken or harmed) so we reorganized our storage to put only soft stuff up above.

The weather and the views were gorgeous!

Our next camp was at Van Damme State Park.

We are sleeping in the van on one night stopovers. We get the camping kitchen out for cooking outside. We like to feel we are still camping.

Campsite at Humboldt Redwoods State Park

We stayed 3 nights at Humboldt Redwoods State Park. Put the tent up and slept in it two nights (loud neighbors arrived for the third night). Took field trips to Ferndale and Garborville-such fun towns. Dean found a wood turner to visit.

Fresh Blackberry Popcicles.
YUM! They really were "just picked"

Got to hug the trees!

We still have a lot of traveling to do on this trip. Time to get back to it. We are now at the East side of Texas, the area called the Piney...
